Rosemary has been asked on a number of occasions to provide settings of words for groups meeting for quiet contemplation. Three of these settings, to words by Nityaanand, have now been collected and are available as Three Devotional Songs. ‘I am not born’ is a simple unaccompanied melody; ‘Walking but taking no footsteps’ and ‘Come sweet friend’ are for solo or unison voices and piano.
The three songs were included in the Candlelit Finale of the Lincoln Labyrinth Festival in Lincoln Cathedral in August 2014. ‘Come sweet friend’ was performed by Lynn Shaw (soprano) and Heather Benson (piano) and the other songs were given by the Labyrinth Choir conducted by Crauford Thomson.
Members of the City of Lincoln Male Voice Choir who sang on that evening asked that ‘I am not born’ and ‘Walking but taking no footsteps’ should become part of the their regular repertoire for concerts given throughout the year in the Lincoln area. Rosemary has now arranged ‘Walking but taking no footsteps’ for four-part male voice choir and this version will receive its premiere in Autumn 2014, conducted by Crauford Thomson. The music is also available in versions for SSAA and piano and for SATB and piano.
