Music talks for Summer 2023

 

The latest in the series of Mornings with a Masterpiece explores chamber works by the Czech composer Antonin Dvořák. These will provide a delightful way to spend two Thursday mornings in May (4th and 11th).

His love of his native Bohemia was the inspiration for much of his music, culminating in two of his greatest chamber works, a Piano Quintet and a Piano Trio. At the height of his powers he accepted the offer of a prestigious post in New York, with a request to help found a distinctive American school of composition. So we shall spend one session in the Old World with the two works mentioned above, and the second session in the New World with a string quartet and a string quintet written for an American audience.
